According to IIFL Wealth Hurun India Rich List 2022, Vinod Shantilal Adani has surpassed his older brother Gautam Adani to take the title of richest NRI (non-resident Indian), leaving Gautam Adani as the second-richest person in the world behind Elon Musk.
Based in Dubai, the elder Adani manages trading businesses in Dubai, Singapore, and Jakarta. His wealth increased by 28 percent or Rs 37,400 crore in the last year, and he moved up two ranks to claim the sixth position in India’s top 10 rich list. His wealth has increased by 850 percent in the last five years, or Rs 151,200 crore to Rs 169,000 crore.
There are 94 NRIs on the rich list, in which Adani, who made Rs 102 crore every day on average in the last year, is the topper
The Hinduja brothers are the second on the list, with a wealth of around Rs 1.65 lakh crore. They are followed by steel tycoon LN Mittal (Rs 1.5 lakh crore), Jay Chaudhry, Anil Agarwal, Yusuff Ali, Shapoor Pallonji Mistry, Sri Prakash Lohia, Rakesh Gangwal, and Vivek Chaand Sehgal.
In the NRI rich list, 88 percent of them are self-made. With 48 individuals, the USA is the most preferred country for NRIs, followed by the UAE and the UK.
