Major telecom network providers including Airtel, Vodafone, and Jio indicated last month that 5G will be coming soon. Airtel has now declared that 5G will launch in less than a month.
The network provider stated that 5G will be accessible in all metropolitan areas of the nation by the end of 2023, with a goal to reach all significant metro areas by the end of the year. The business added that by March 2024, 5G would be accessible in major rural and urban locations.
Airtel has also stated that as their SIMs already support 5G, everyone who upgraded to 4G won’t need to do so again. Those curious about the availability of 5G in their location can check.
To check if their city and phone are 5G capable, they can use the Airtel Thanks app. Remember that the feature won’t be available till 5G is launched.
Airtel spent Rs 43,084 crore and paid instalments for the following four years, which comes to around Rs 8,312.4 crore, during the 5G spectrum auction process. Establishing 5G infrastructure in the nation is being done in collaboration with Nokia, Samsung, and Ericsson. It appears that Airtel will employ non-standalone 5G infrastructure rather than building new infrastructure from scratch, whereas Jio will use standalone 5G, which gives faster speeds.
